Letters home from the Goldfields…
Dear Parents,
Just got my licence to dig. I hope I am succesful. I am looking for 2kg of gold to give to my friend, he will give me a reward for it. There was a big protest today for the price of licences. I was fortunate to be at the start of the queue, apparently it was a 3 day wait. I lost my shovel today when i left for a drink, it was not there when I came back. Today i bought a pan I plan to start panning tommorow. My friend Bob was being very illegal by not having a licence. If I get gold it will be very precious to me for all my life.
Yours Sincerely,
Jack
Dear Mum and Dad,
It has been fun being a digger. I had to get a licence to get in the goldfields. I dig by no I am not lucky. When I come home I want to be fortunate. My friends and I are underground in a mine we are using our shovel all the time. We are looking for precious gold. We will come home wealthy, trust me. Bye, be at home soon.

Dear Mum and Dad,
I’ve just arrieved at the goldfields, people are calling me digger. I dug a hole and found a golden nugget. I found a twenty four carat necklace. They give a licence. I’ve been lucky a few times but the nuggets wasn’t big. Th enugget I found was metallic. It’s very dangerous because we’re going underground. It is illegal not to have a licence. I’m missing you.
Love Jake
Dear Mum and dad,
I am so lucky to be here right now. We went underground, it was awesome but very dangerous. I got a reward for being the bravest. There was lots of precious gems down there. Then we had to do some digging. We needed some help from a real digger. We got attacked by a dog. While we were diffing we found a two carat nugget.
Love Amy
Dear Parents,
Today we found the mine and started digging for gold. The mine is gigantic. The shovels can break as a I found out today. Tomorrow we are going to pan. It’s very dangerous. Some people are telling me about how other people who dig become bushrangers. I am hoping to find a golden nugget. I want to be rich. I feel like I have deserted you to live at my house.
Love always, Beth.
P.S I am missing you.
Dear Mum and Dad,
Today the mine workers have been welcoming me to there gigantic mine. i miss you and hope you can be here soon. But in one way I hope you don’t come. It is really dangerous and I met some bushrangers. We have been working all day underground. It is so cold and people have gone crazy because two hours ago we found a precious nugget worth twenty four carats. Tomorrow I will become a trooper and I’m really excited. I better go now, got another nugget to find.

To Mum and Dad,
I have just arrived at the Goldfields to find golden nuggets. I got here by a coach. The tools I have to use are a pan, and a shovel. It is dangerous digging in the Goldfields because you need a licence to dig. I am lucky tohave a licence. If you find a nugget it is worth a fortune and you will get a reward.
Love from Breanne, see you soon.
Dear Maddes,
I have had to dig a big mine and I am liucky to find a gigantic nugget so we will be wealthy. I have a licence because it is illegal not to. Gold is metallic and it comes from underground.

Dear Mum and dad,
I’m letting you know I’ve arrived at the goldfields. Some things we use are shovels, pans, cradles, shaft mines and picks. One of my mates was really lucky and found a nugget about the size of a wine cork. A few days ago a bushranger came in and stole a wealthy man’s nugget that was real big. Everyone was really angry when they found out it was really a trooper that had stolen the nugget we all wanted him killed. You won’t believe this, the trooper who had stolen the nugget was released without charge. Twice a week we get a licence check and I’ve got mine. I’ll write again, “Seeya”.

Dear Mum and Dad,
I was very lucky when I went in teh mine and i found a nugget. It is very precious to me. I was the only one to find one. I got a reward and then we went walking and they were goin gto dersert me. I couldn’t find anyone so I went back to the Goldfields it was very dangerous. I use a used a shovel to dig a mine. I went underground to find more nuggets. I’m a real bushranger.
See you soon,

Dear Mum and Dad,
I am at the Goldfields. I am looking for gold. I have not even found a bit of gold and it’s been a week. I am thinking of coming home. I am digging very hard. Now everyone calls me a digger. You know what I was able to go on a coach, it was okay. It would be a good reward to find some gold. I am also thinking of going into a mine. If I find gold I will be saying ‘Eureka’. What is a pan? Everyone uses that word. Someone found a ten carat gold nugget. Mum, Dad have a good time at home. I am coming home soon.
